Why the Mc**** not? Afghanistan is and always will be a ****hole.

Nuking it would be a mercy for everyone.

We only have a few thousand nukes that we spend billions on and never use.

The other two options are spending billions on them and then actually using them or not spending billions on them and risk having them used on us.

The cost of a Minute Man 3 Missle is only about $7 million according to Wiki...

How much are we spending there now?

Why would we need over 5000 nuclear weapons to provide an effective deterrent? That's several thousand too many.

Wouldn't nuking Afghanistan just create a race of super-mutant Taliban with super-elastic death beards?

Weapons or warheads? IIRC, the distinction there is relevant.

The obvious solution is to give it to France:

                            1. They owe us

                            2. They're looking to be a colonial power again for some reason.

                              3) They are one of the few colonial powers who haven't gotten their dicks chopped off in Afghanistan yet.

We're down to about 2000 deliverables now. We had so many of course because of the need to prevent the other side, the Soviet Union, from being able to eliminate our ability to effectively respond after a first strike and thus eliminate our credible strategic deterrence.
