No. What happened in the show was more an homage to her escape from Harrenhal, including using her coin as a distraction.

The point being that the creators of the show didn't really think it was that big a deal.

Well, it didn't really happen the same way. And from the reactions I've seen people cared, it's just that the victim was more random so it wasn't led up to very strongly.
