  • Spoiler:
Little Finger is a plotter but he didn't do all of that. Background: He was raised as a ward of Kat's father the lord of Riverrun, Warden of the Riverlands, where he falls madly in love with Kat. Kat however only thinks of him as her little brother and isn't interested. Once, just before Robert's Rebellion, LF is getting drunk depressed that Kat has rejected him and that's when Lissa seduces him, sadly, he drunkenly calls Lissa her sister Kat's name while climaxing thus making Lissa insanely jealous and envious of her older sister (who she was always jealous of anyway). When their dad finds out he banishes LF and forced Lissa to abort the pregnancy by drinking a tea (we learn this when Lord Hoster Tully is dying and rambling on deliriously). This is right when Robert's Rebellion is starting and right after Brandon Stark (Ned's older brother and rightful heir to the North) & Ned's father had just been tortured and killed by the mad king. The two Starks had gone to King's Landing to retrieve Ned's sister Lianna who had either been abducted or ran off with Prince Raegar but rather than giving them back Lianna the mad king kills them.

Thus Kat is married off to Ned the younger son but now heir to the north while Lissa gets married off to John Ayran who is much older (Ned's dad's age) but without an heir because his previous wife was barren but recently died. John Aryan knew Lissa had an affair but took her anyway as he needed an alliance with the Tullys and Hoster was offering him a wife with proven breading ability. Fast forward 16 years and Lissa is still in love with LF, LF is not in love with her but is willing to fake it, LF gets Lissa to poison her husband who is now hand of the king, and thinks this will finally open the way up to marrying LF who she has always been in love with. LF also gets Lissa to not help the Starks during the war of the five kings and has Lissa write a letter blaming the Lannisters for John Aryan's death. When Joffery tries to kill Ned's son Brandon LF uses that event to further set the Starks and the Lannisters against each other. Further more LF hates the Starks because they got the only girl he's ever loved but also because Ned's brother Brandon beat LF in a duel and left him with a scar from his belly button to his neck (which is why LF always wears clothes which cover him all the way up to the neck.

You have to remember that LF isn't the only plotter in King's Landing as both Varys and Grand Maester Pyselle are also plotting stuff not to mention the various great houses and people like Cersei (though Cersei isn't very artful about it).

    • BTW folks should read up on Robert's Rebellion and the reasons he rebelled as it will really help put things into perspective.

      • Oerdin I'd take your plot synopses a little bit seriously if you actually spelled the damn names even close to correctly.

        Spoiler:
Yes, Baelish convinced Cat that the knife used to attempt her son's assassination was Tyrion's; yes, Baelish had Jon Arryn killed; yes, he convinced Joffrey to kill Ned Stark; yes, he conspired with Olenna Tyrell to murder Joffrey and pin it on Tyrion so that Sansa would be unwed and Margaery would marry the more tractable Tommen. Then he kills Lysa Arryn and is about to kill her son too so that the heir he has in his pocket can marry Sansa.

Varys, on the other hand, is just plotting to put his kinsman, a blackfyre pretender, on the throne.

        • If there's one thing this thread has established, it's that we get along fine without 100% accuracy on the names.

            • That was my favorite moment in the books, perfectly timed with a dramatic death coinciding with a major reveal, and that timing got screwed up.

Oh yeah one really good thing they did which I missed until rewatching it:

              • We still got the reveal; we will still get the death. I seriously don't see the problem.

Bwaaahahahahaha. I heard that in a lot of previous seasons they set up those kind of jumps but then scenes got shifted around so they got ruined. They seem to be better put together this season.

As far as what people are grumpy about, I can see why they're grumpy but...

                  Spoiler:
The finale will have SO many shockers as it is, I can see the logic behind moving one shocker earlier on to keep people interested. After all in a book you have to keep the interested at the END of to the book to get them to buy the next one while with a TV show you have to keep them interested mid-season to keep them tuning and we haven't had too much exciting happening the last few episodes so we need some red meat. Also I can see them being afraid of Lysa's revelation about her husband being drowned out by everything else that happens in the final episode so moving it earlier gives it more prominence.

Still, would've probably preferred them leaving it for the coming Only Cat scene but it was OK here and am not toooo annoyed.

                  • My only issue with doing the reveal here is that it seems like a lot of people missed it. I think that was an execution problem, coming in the middle of a ham-fisted exposition block as it did. Can't say I was pleased with the scene, but more because of that than because it shifted timing a bit.
