It's important to know the reasons why the American Civil War was fought. Otherwise, we let distortionists have free reign.Originally posted by Tuberski View PostWho gives a **** why the war was fought? It helped free slaves and that's the only good think that came of it.

The SouthOriginally posted by Docfeelgood View PostAll my life i have been told the south seceded over states' rights. Now, it is wrong? I don't believe the slavery was the issue because only the wealthy could afford slaves.

Seriously, though, this is a point towards having a national education curriculum. People down South get taught wrong **** like the Confederacy was right and creationism."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

That's interesting, because I've only ever been to school in the south and this has never ever been even a little bit true for me, not even when I was in Tennessee.Originally posted by Al B. Sure! View PostThe South

The South shot first.Originally posted by Lonestar View Post4. Abraham Lincoln went to war to end slavery.

Just goes to show how worthless exporting is as far as producing real wealth. That year, the South produced almost 75 percent of all U.S. exports.

Good thing the civil war wasn't fought using accounting.Slaves were worth more than all the manufacturing companies and railroads in the nation.

In Docfeelgood's elementary school, on the poster of American presidents, they had Jefferson Davis instead of Lincoln."Flutie was better than Kelly, Elway, Esiason and Cunningham." - Ben Kenobi

Northern Virginia is not "The South", at least not culturally. The Mason-Dixon line is a poor demarcation point for the cultural South. The Sweet Tea line is a better boundry.Originally posted by HCThat's interesting, because I've only ever been to school in the south and this has never ever been even a little bit true for me, not even when I was in Tennessee.
