  • Actually, Liberals Love War

Its RT but I felt like trolling today...
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.
The simple suggestion of a true change scandalizes and terrifies modern man. -Nicolás Gómez Dávila

War boosts newspaper circulation. Yanks figured that out in 1898 and promptly invaded Cuba. It worked so they've been at it even since. Invasions, interventions, bombings and so forth.

And a hundred years after Joseph Pulitzer helped pioneer Yellow Journalism, people were still winning prizes named after him for lurid, sensationalist but fictitious accounts designed to beat the drums of war.

Bit odd that George Bush & Tony Blair and Little Johnny Howard didn't get one of them there prizes. Thoroughly deserved but they weren't journalists so they missed out.

Good story. Mad evil dictator plotting to blow up the world. Dangerous weapons hidden away ready to kill us all. Links to evil terrorists and all.

Me neither; IIRC MSNBC wasn't even considered a liberal bastion in the winter of 2002-2003, so their pussing out on the lead-up to the Iraq war doesn't say a whole hell of a lot about liberals. Meanwhile Libya is so fundamentally different (UN backing, larger coalition, ongoing crisis to avert, no ground involvement, etc. etc. etc.) that they wouldn't necessarily be hypocrites anyway.

Nope, U.S. involvement in Libya is no different from Iraq. In fact, I think Obama is worse than Bush when it comes to war. Bush, however stupid he was, firmly believed he could spread Western ideals democracy in Iraq and Afghanistan. Whereas Obama's ramping up of the Afghan war and leading the intervention in Libya is done out of political expediency and not wanting to appear weak. He knows these wars are futile, expensive, and stupid yet he still continues them because he is a coward. The truth is Democrats and the liberal class are just as bad as Republicans. Let's not forget that Vietnam, the Bay of Pigs, and the Korean war all took place under Democratic presidencies. The simple truth is the Untied States has had a love affair with empire since the Spanish-American war and hasn't looked back since.

At any rate, the 'coalition' is made up of degenerate Euroturds and rich Arabs states who have interests in the region. Why are we even in this? Italy should be the one leading the intervention since they get most of Libyan oil exports and it was their former colony. I supported Obama because I was hoping he would avoid plunging us further into horse****. Guess he couldn't even do that. Don't start nation building and foreign wars when you can't even fix crap in your own backyard.

tl';dr version: Obama is ****** and needs to give his Nobel Peace Prize back.

I should qualify that I don't disagree; I'm just saying that the Maddows and Schultzes of the world at least have a non-frivolous basis to claim they're not disgusting hypocritical hacks. Doesn't mean they aren't.

Actually the coalition of the willing Obama put together is smaller than any major multilateral operation since the end of the Cold War. Iraq had more support among the international community.

Ongoing crisis to avert brings up questions of why we are not in the other countries.
