    • Maybe when you grow up and get some real world experience, you will actually learn to use the brain you have.
But if your posts here are any indication, it might take a while.

People are already working on ways to integrate it into the entertainment venues, like the new professional soccer stadium.

I was just asking the question really 'cause I was interested. And got some interesting answers (thanks everyone!). I'm not a native of the country let alone the region, so hard for me to claim to judge what's considered offensive there.

          • I'm definitely in the "calling Kansas City rural is retarded" camp though.

I'm also in the "comparing everything to Philly is boring" camp and the "go visit some other places!" camp.

            I'm pretty camp.

            • MikeH is not speaking the truth this time.

Comparing everything to Philly is making lots of people feel better about where they live.

              • Some of us don't need to feel better about where we live.

                  • the main downside to living in Kansas is the weather, 3 months of winter followed by 3 months of tornadoes

Lawrence is a nice area, or if you want the big city, Overland Park or one of the several smaller citilets of KC will do just fine.

                    • have they installed it yet?

It isn't the length of winter so much as the intensity, and tornadoes aren't that big of a hassle when you live behind the Tonganoxie split.

Even the intensity isn't that bad, since we tend to have dry winters (present winter excepted, of course), unlike the northeast.

My little house on acreage is clearly rural, but I can still get to downtown KCMO in a half hour -- lovely wide highways overbuilt for the traffic on them.

                          • Ahh, local congress critters bringing home the bacon. Rural areas outside KCK get bigger freeways then they need while we in densely populated urban areas must beg, borrow, or steal money to expand clogged freeways and you can forget about money for mass transit.

It wouldn't be so bad if $0.20 of every tax dollar we sent to Washington didn't get taken to subsidize other states. If we had that money then we we could build our own high speed rail or freeway expansions.

Our freeways were built in the sixties and seventies when the Kansas City Mob owned the concrete business.

Beyond that, highway construction is always tons more expensive when expansion requires demolition of previously developed areas that are still active. KC never had that problem because back then the 'burbs were still mostly fields.

                              • Yeah, that's true. They are expanding I15 in San Diego to add two HOV lanes (which change direction based on traffic flow) and to add one additional lane to each side but they've been working on that for fours years and they'll likely be working on it for another 4-5 years. It's been a huge pain in the ass because it requires them to demolish a dozen bridges and build new ones, to grade the roadways wider (including cutting several hillsides wider), and rebuild every on & off ramp. It's been a traffic nightmare.
