If you haven't seen the protests at the G7/G20 meetings over the past decade, you must be blind. If you have forgotten about them (people died), you're ignorant.
Big money has screwed many people over and while it's true only a few protested when the bubble was still growing (and laughed at. How did you feel about them then?) it doesn't mean the larger crowd should remain silent when the con-man has finally been exposed to the large public at last. Of course the money man is still pulling the strings, large bonusses being handed out the the very people who had been holding up their hands to the taxpayers (warning!: taxpayers are the men and women demonstrating, not the tie's scoffing them) a short while ago.

The demonstrators have every right to be angry, the tie's are lucky they have not yet to be afraid of life and limbs.

I get it, but what I don't understand is why these protestors are so stuipd they don't see the need for budget cuts. Would they prefer higher taxes?

In many cases, yes they would.

They are also protesting about what is being cut. Many would prefer, for instance, much bigger defence cuts, rather than the cuts we're getting.

And there are arguments that the cuts are being done too deep too fast in a fragile economy, so actually it could make things worse. Growing the economy increases tax revenue, which helps reduce the defecit. So there's a strong argument that anything that slows down growth might make things worse rather than better.

A lot of the more violent anarchist protesters, just like smashing stuff up.

Yeah, it is ridiculous, and as I have mentioned to countless people, I find it infuriating that Labour are behind instigating these protests against the cuts that have had to be imposed for the mess they themselves created.

Although on the other hand, we need to take measures to ensure that this kind of crash cannot happen again, and the banking sector does need to be more regulated. Another bailout of this scale is unacceptable.

The US hasn't done a damn thing to reregulate the financial sector in order to prevent systemic risk nor will it because the single largest lobbying group in Washington is the banking industry. Our political system has basically ****ed our economy and will continue to do so.

No, just taxes better collected (especially from wealthy corporations with clever tax avoidance schemes) and cuts more fairly aimed- in the U.K. the cuts have been disproportionately distributed to lower income more deprived areas, especially in cities. Oddly enough in many areas which didn't elect a representative of either of the two coalition parties in the government.

The protesters aren't in the least bit stupid-many are better informed about this country's political landscape and economy than you.

They're simply utilising the freedoms of a democratic society to show this government their anger at and opposition to the government's actions and cuts- and in the case of the Liberal Democratic Party, their anger at its leader's lies and broken promises.
