We bruned down York(Toronto) which was the capital of Upper Canada.

Also, Asher fails to mention that those Canadians who were bombed were doing a field exercise, not off "doing dirty work". The CF wasn't involved in heavy fighting until after Harper increased their commitment.

I would keep the US military budget the same, or increase it.

Then we can continue to cut ours and have the American public pick up the bill. They seem happy to pay $3000 each a year on defence so let them!

What's funny is that your country(Oz) is going to have a better power-projection capability than the UK will in 10 years.

Our military cuts strategy is totally retarded. But that still isn't anywhere close to true.

In 10 years we will actually have a functional carrier with a proper fixed wing air wing on board for the first time in a very long time.

Yes, I forgot the mention the US military bombed Canadians in friendly territory in a training mission in a clearly marked training area.

More power projection, more problems. Paints a target on your country. Good luck.

So is HC the only one here who thinks America being militarily strong, protecting the free world, peacekeeping and policing, etc. is not entirely bad?

I mean yes, there's been many hiccups and it's probably contributed to our need to be even more involved (War on Terror) but we've seen in the past (before and during the first halves of both World Wars) what happens to the world when there's an isolationist America, we've seen the immense importance of America as the defender of the free world during the Cold War, etc.

If we don't do it, China and/or Russia will. Our motivations and actions are far cleaner and more righteous by an order of magnitude than theirs would be.

If you ask me, the appropriate position that I think someone should have would be that US involvement in the world is a necessary evil at worst and possibly a genuine force for good in many circumstances.

This whole 'get the **** out of peoples' countries' is very shallow thinking. We're the big player here and we're the ones who are most capable of defending the dozens of other countries that are democracies. If we want a free world, the US better be involved.

WW1/2 didn't happen because the US was isolationist. You are retarded.

You also drastically overstate the importance of the US in "the cold war". The cold war existed because of the US. You're a complete fool if you think the USSR would've invaded Canada if it weren't for the US...

And good training it was for our pilots.

Wow... just wow... what crazy history are you being taught in Canada?

Yes, the Cold War was America's fault! Yes, EVIL AMERICAN EMPIRE that prevented the great global proletariat revolution!

Oh and yes, just because the Soviets overran Belarus, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Armenia, Moldova, Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Albania... surely an ideology based on Proletarian Internationalism would've stopped at those borders!
