  • Does Your Beaver Glow?

Thread in which we discuss the merits of building atomic reactors in Alberta.

    Pro:
    1. Alberta imports electricity.
1a. This benefits Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia.
    1b. Fvck them.
1c. Alberta should export all forms of energy.
Profit: All your joules are belong to us!

    2. A major criticism of unconventional oil development in Alberta is that it requires more carbon to produce it than other sources of oil.
2a. Cheap sources of energy that do not have a carbon output could replace some sources of power that currently use natural gas in the extraction and upgrading of heavy oil.
2b. Along with improvements in efficiency of energy used in extraction, the well to wheels carbon impact of heavy Alberta Oil could be reduced to or below the average for use in American refineries through the use of nuclear power.
Profit: All your gas tanks are belong to us!

    3. Natural gas is burned by producers of heavy oil.
3a. The more natural gas that gets burned to produce oil for American gas tanks, the less natural gas there will be to sell to Ontario at a later date,
3b. The less natural gas sold to Ontario is the less of Ontario's cash that will support the baby eating regime of Alberta.
3c. Saving natural gas will yield more babies eaten if measured against the 100 year average of elasticity of demand vs the KrankyHorse curve of supply given a finite supply of non baby eating sources of power.
Profit: All your babies are belong to us!

    4. Our beavers will be backed by nukleer weapons.
4a. There is no 4a, because
Profit: All your wildlife are belong to us!

    Cons:
    1. Asher says so.

Plenty of cold but short on fusion.

I'm not of this but .... Doesn't Alberta produce oil from sands. A fair bit of oil? I gather that uses a lot of energy. If so, perhaps cheap nuclear power might be a good thing to cut the extraction costs?

Sorry this is all questions. i am not exactly au fait on the situation in Alberta.

Are you sure you have been on these boards for any period of time? The fact you have anyone taking an opposing point of view is always a pro followed by the ritual "so and so is a complete moron thus proving my point" verbiage.

I thought we were supposed to press our points and never admit that the oppo has said anything intelligent.

Zactly. You admitted Asher was against it and gave that a con rating thus giving Asher POV credence. For shame have you learned nothing over the years?

People don't need to know anything else.

I'm fine with building nuclear plants in Alberta, so long as they're built next to Rexall Place or whatever the new arena is.

Maybe I was misreading the original post, NYE were you saying Asher was for it if so I stand corrected and humbled as you followed correct poly protocols.

No. He is doing an about face, sort of.

He was against it because there would be some benefit to Ontario. So I co-opted his point.

Now he is for it if we turn Edmonton into a nuclear waste storage site. He is subtle.

I'm not against building nuke plants in Alberta, just ones using technology from those no-good Ontarians.

Fine, we build nuke plants in Edmonton and coal plants in Calgary.

Calgary is too important to put power plants in. We need to build them in areas with people who have no useful skills, like Edmonton, Red Deer, or Lac la Biche.

You'll need some local generation for the day when the federal Liberals get back in and Ralph Klein leads the insurrection with Calgary as his capitol.

                              I'll be leading the insurrection.
