“In a democracy, I realize you don’t need to talk to the top leader to know how the country feels. When I go to a dictatorship, I only have to talk to one person and that’s the dictator, because he speaks for all the people.” - Jimmy Carter
Sorry Brits, Euros, and Aussies, but I do not know enough about your politics to know the big buttons, other than Thatcher in Britain. Feel free to make up your own villains and tel us one good thing they did.
Thatcher and Blair deserve their own plane of hell together for the rest of eternity.
Better still - He tried to do it without resorting to using them.

I'm probably a bit on the liberal side overall, but I find it rather easier to say something good about Reagan than Carter. I'm confused as to how to proceed.
This is a good question. As is the question of those who aren't sure which side they fit in anymore (can I be a moderate right winger if I'm for universal health care, reducing the size of the military, wanting to balance the budget by increasing taxes on the wealthier Americans rather than cutting services for poorer Americans, and banning the death penalty?), but I probably could say something good about both Reagan and Carter.

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
You are Canadian and a liberal (not the party) tell me one good thing that Mulroney did.

You are Canadian and conservative, tell me one good thing that Trudeau did.

Reagan increased funding for the physical sciences... is pretty much the only president since Johnson for that to be true of.
Federal sciences funding as a percentage of GDP* started increasing significantly under President Eisenhower, from .73% in 1953 to more than double that percentage 1.69% in 1960. Funding as a percentage of GDP peaked in 1964, at 1.92 percent under then-President Lyndon Johnson (no doubt with heavy input from his predecessor, President John F. Kennedy, as budgets are set a year prior) The spending level was was 1.64% of GDP in President Johnson's last year in office, 1968. It went down slightly under President Richard Nixon, from 1.55% in 1969 to 1.15% in 1974; and down to 1.11% in President Gerald Ford's last year in office, 1976. Funding went down from 1.09% in President Jimmy Carter's first year in office, 1977, to 1.07% in 1980. But the number fluctuated a great deal under President Ronald Reagan -- starting at 1.08% in 1981, peaking at 1.25% in 1985, and ending with a net increase in 1988 at 1.18%. Funding proceeded to decrease again under President George H.W. Bush (1.10% in 1989, 0.96% in 1992); President Bill Clinton (0.91% in 1993 to 0.68% in 2000); and President George W. Bush (0.72% in 2001, peaking in 2003 and 2004 at 0.76%, and lessening to 0.71% in 2007, the last year for which statistics were available.)

It's not that it was a joke, TMM is just upset that it was about Reagan. Apparently making such jokes about Trudeau is ok.
