  • back in the 80s Reagan and Tip agreed to repeatedly raise the payroll tax to make SS "solvent" - a massive transfer of wealth from working people of modest means to often wealthier elderly people

    • What's the max SS payment?

How many of these wealthier people are there?

What amount of assets would define wealthy?

He also raised retirement age. And at least he did something about it, instead of waiting for it to collapse like subsequent presidents.

        • The contribution cap has been raised many times. I used to stop paying in October, but not anymore.

            • See, if they tuned that down and raised the age to 69, there would be no problems.

              • BTW, that site is a bit alarmist and unreasonable.

I note that you can still expect to get ~13 years of retirement funds from SS and so won't be effected by any planned solutions...

                • So if they tuned it down for state workers and they don't live too long, it shouldn't be an issue for them either.

And I fully expect to die earlier so my wife will be the one that benefits as she sips fancy drinks on some tropical beach.

                  • You will die early from stress. Stop worrying about your retirement payments!

                    • I will stop worrying about my retirement payments when I've stashed enough away so I can actually retire. Which is my only concern here.

                      • You haven't already? Given your demographic I would have thought you could retire already. Do you some have ridiculously expensive tastes, leeching children or some sort of drug habit that would drain your income dry?

Or did you just fritter it all away in years gone by?

57(?) years old and it sounds like he makes 100-120k a year. Most people in that position haven't saved enough for retirement yet (unless they're government workers on ridiculously generous defined benefit plans)...

My dad retired at 50, but he did leave with a company pension that paid more than my salary until a few years ago.

To be fair most people Rah's age have a drug habit and that's why Medicare is broke.
