In the US, the airlines generally have a bad reputation for reducing services and increasing prices. But they remain the most convenient way to travel medium to long distances. Personally, I've found myself taking long distance buses more often. This is usually because I have a bad habit of waiting until the last minute to buy tickets.

I'm happy with Continental, and I like the little Embraer planes use between KC and Newark.

Depending where you are going, possibly. Another down side is the inability to sleep (if you want to).

On the "plus" side - I can go when I want, where I want, with whom I want. I choose the audio entertainment and I can smoke. Plus, in this country, I will get there sooner.

Even though they are incompetent as hell, during rush hour train is the fastest in our small country.

Still when I don't have go to Brussels or Antwerp, I take my car.

Before anyone says anything about racial profiling, I can say from personal experience as an Arab-American with an obviously Islamic name that I never had an issue on four flights since September 11th.

As an Australian with an obviously Australian name I have never had any issues with racial profiling when flying in Australia.

Our airlines are OK in terms of price and service between cities. Flying to country towns seems expensive.

Umh, I remember a thread about the Homeland Security at airports. It seemed like an excuse for "America-hating".

City center to city center trains and sometimes planes are def. superior speed, price and probably comfort, unless you really need your car where you're going or absolutely love to drive. Buses are a little cheaper but so slow.

The service is not great on any of the airlines that fly in Sweden but the longest domestic flight (north to south or vice versa) is about 2 hrs + layover and either end to Stockholm is 1 hr so what does it matter.

Malmö-Stockholm:
by plane with shuttle and waiting: 3-4 hrs total at maybe 80-120 USD shuttle included
by train: 4 hrs 30 mins at 75 USD (more frequent departures than planes)
by car: 6 hrs at 90-100 USD in gas (yay taxes!)
by bus: 8-9 hrs at 55-60 USD
