Rah, I suddenly realized Uncle Sam did something brilliant that does influence the current situation in Lybia: They negotiated with Moammar 'Mad Dog' Gadaffi to have him give up his NBC weapons. Heaven forbid to think what he could have thrown at his own populace then.

Obviously without Iraq this wouldn't have happened. The Arabs/Muslims saw that we came in and took out an Arab dictator who was supported by terrorists (read: Muslims/Arabs). They want revenge now so they are taking out dictators who are supported by us! An eye for an eye leaves the whole world in DEMOCRACY!

Perhaps another take on the OP: Will Iraq go the way of Libya/Egypt/Tunisia?

                  Yeah, I've seen that.

I think that rah's point can be defended. Perhaps if the US had not
taken Saddam down none of this would be possible. But I doubt it.

That's a dumb question to ask because it's obvious that wasn't the plan.

Oh, if only we had used our magic eighth ball to know that eight years down the road, the United States would not have had to invade Iraq!

Yep, we can see in hindsight that the war was a stupid idea.

                          True

No invasion needed - just have to wait for Saddam to kill enough Iraquis so they get pissed enough to revolt. Unfortunatedly, he did have a tendency to commit genocide if opposed, so it could be kinda bloody and a failure.

If Saddam had shown that sufficient brutality was enough to stay on top, then there may have been other histories to be told from Tunesia, Egypt etc.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

The GOP stimulus plan: Over one trillion dollars spent bombing, torturing, and murdering impoverished brown farmers and goat herders on the other side of the globe.

Republicans get stimulated by torturing and murdering people?

Or maybe Saddam was not really as much of a sadist as we thought. Maybe he didn't know that the bio-chemical weapons he used on his people would kill them.
