You know not of what you speak.

I had to suffer an undergrad career infested with Sun hardware and software, as they were a huge donor (as it was James Gosling's alma mater). Godawful UltraSPARCs with godawful Slowaris.

I mostly use my Ultra 27 to play Mahjongg rather than monitor the servers anyway. Your Taxdollars at work.

Actually, yes I do. At TJ I manage* a couple dozen Sun servers and we use Sun ray thin clients in a computer lab and in kiosks all around the school. We use Solaris 10 and OpenSolaris extensively.

*well actually my twin brother is in charge of our Sun setup but I help out

Sysadmining the servers doesn't mean you understand the OS design.

Solaris servers were designed for idiot sysadmins with Sun certifications. That's part of the problem with Solaris.

Couldn't care less about the OS design, the servers run real well and I ****ing love ZFS, containers, Sun Ray and all that other wonderful Solaris magic

The lack of a package manager that handles dependencies is annoying but we have a setup we call SMU (solaris mass update) that we created that is a sort of combined package manager and system imager. It doesn't handle dependencies, but it's pretty neat.

There were only two good technologies to come out of Solaris: D-Bus and ZFS.

D-Bus is now used in OS X and Linux, and ZFS is apparently not going anywhere.

Containers were okay, but they're well behind AIX Workload Partitions and FreeBSD Jails now.

Liar. Containers, LDOMs, all sorts of other wonderful goodies. We use Sun Cluster to have high-availability AFS with auto-failover, for instance.
