I'm fairly sure you nicked that line off me.

Anyway, the Mexicans can keep their foul coriander and over-spiced muggings of the sensory system. Egg, bacon, sausage, beans & tomato FTW!

Ever had fried cactus smothered in chicken and cheese sauce?
Stuffed sopapillas filled with honey as a treat?
      Tortilla Soup?
      Tres Leches (Milk Cake)?
Don't close your mind so quick.
      Your missing some good food.

        Of course

Cort, don't discount the Mexican breakfast if you like the full English...it is remarkably parallel and fills the same gap - just more spicy - I used to love that on a Sunday morning

You know, speaking of the cactus, you just can't get nopales over here...although they are a bit of an acquired taste and not everyone who tried them liked them, but personally I couldn't get enough of the stuff

It depends. When nopales are fresh they're pretty taste neutral and (if the skins are peeled) then just add texture without much test. If they're more then a day old though then they get slimy and can taste off. I like to buy the whole skinned and de-barbed cactus pad so I can cut it up myself so that the sap doesn't have time to coagulate and turn slimy. A bit of nopales diced up and added to an omelet are pretty good as they add texture without much flavor (so you use spices to add flavor).

Well I've never prepared them myself, they don't tend to be that common around these parts. I have heard that they are supposed to be remarkably good for you.

As Oerdin said, on their own they don't have a strong taste, it's probably the other stuff they add to them.

I was amused earlier on today when I found out that Mexicans refer to their president, Felipe Calderon, as FeCal

                        Now that is funny.

Of course, the cool thing about nopales is you can grow cactus even on the most marginal of land other wise unsuitable for agriculture. A lot of Northwest Mexico and the Southwest US is desert so this is something they can plant there and get a crop out of land which other wise is only useful for goat herding. I've also noticed that some people who own desert land have also been planting frankincense trees as that's another thing which can be planted in the desert which will yield something of economic value albeit very slowly.

Well it is worth getting some use out of the land I suppose, much better than seeing it just sit there.

What you are saying Mr Bot, is that Mexicans are fat?
