What does your ex's faults have to do with supporting your children?

She is not likely to ask for $4mil a month, is she?

Alimony is taxable, child support isn't.
No, I did not steal that from somebody on Something Awful.

The men's right movement guys mostly just ***** and and moan, but they do have some divorce experts as well as ample personal experience that leads to nonstandard advice which is usefully. Try this question on one of their blogs or forums.

You should have lawyer-ed up as soon as you found out she was cheating and waited a bit before confronting her.

Oh snap, child support? Judging from my brother's experiences, that's like dealing with the IRS, only the auditor has it in for you personally. Word of advice, be wary of offers to cut you some slack with the child support. They may sound friendly--they may even be friendly at the time they're offered--but sooner or later they turn into leverage.

Sincere apologies, sb. Also, sincere apologies in that I've no beneficial advice to offer.

Make sure you pay child support to the state and they pay her. Never any fighting about whether you paid or not. If NY does that, anyway.

                  ACK!

                    Sounds like ****ty beetles.

I thought you two had an open relationship. I gather that wasn't enough and she looked for something on the side besides what was agreed to be on the side?

I think they were both allowed to **** girls, not guys.

At any rate, sorry to hear that you're having personal problems. As far as child support, from what I've seen a lot of it gets funneled into supporting mothers' lifestyles rather than supplying their children with stuff.

If NY is like CA then they'll **** you on child support. A coworker of mine has to pay almost $3000 per month in child support (or so he tells me). Tell me, what do you have to buy each month for two kids which costs $3000? I'm all for guys living up to their responsibilities to their children but KH is right. Most of that money is going to get funneded into supporting the mother's lifestyle and not going to things for the kids.

It's based on a percentage of your pay, per child. It is what it is.

Marriage is a bad deal for men today, there is literally no good reason for a young man to "marry" today.

The traditional sacrament still has merit, but cohabitation laws will make that difficult too. Best course of action seems paternity testing for every child + a hell of a prenup + making sure you live in a state with friendly legislation
