    1) No, the word "constant" appears there, and the final number looks a lot like today's prices (divide by 7 to get today's USD). Therefore the 67.9bln is <10 billion in 2010 USD

    2) I had guessed at 1billion pop. in china in the 1950s. Looks more like 600-700 million, so that ups it to <10billion 2010USD / 600million = 16 2010USD per cap

      The website he links to labels the figures as "GDP Rmb billion at current prices". I'm guessing onefootinthegrave made a mistake.

        Apply some critical thought here, Jon. What's more likely? 10$ per capita or the fact that there is no reasonable estimate of per-capita production in an economy like China circa 1955?

          There are a large number of people who survive on the equivalent of less than a dollar a day. Claiming that anybody survived on a 30th of that is retarded.

              I didn't suggest that 10$ was the per-capita production in China in 1955. I provided data where it had been lacking.
