After tragedy, Arizona eyes more gun rights

Arizona has become a national leader in the gun rights movement in recent years as the state enacted law after law to protect the people's right to bear arms nearly anywhere, at anytime.

Basing gun laws in a nation of 300 million (which has ~15-20k homicides a year) on 1-2 mass shootings a year is retarded.

I'm much, much more likely to die from being shot in a mugging, in a domestic dispute or some other mundane occurrence than I am from being shot in a mass shooting.

If you believe that private gun ownership is valuable for the purposes of self-defense then applying ridiculous limits on the capacity of the gun is stupid.

How about home shootouts? Any figures on those?

No idea, nor does it matter for the purposes of my argument, which is predicated on the assumption that somebody has the belief that private gun ownership is a positive.

There are literally 10-20k fatal shootings a year in the US. Maybe 20 or 30 of those happen during the course of a mass shooting.

You asking me? The point of those is superior stopping power, right? I have no objection. If you're shooting at someone, you obviously intend to kill him, might as well do the job right. But it's not like I've given it a lot of thought.

I love watching somebody try to thread the needle. "A legitimate defense might require 12 bullets, but not possibly 13. And if it does require 13, well that's just the price we'll have to pay to maybe save the lives of one or two people by slowing down a mass shooter in extremely rare instances. That's something I'm much more worried about than the 10000 or 20000 people who get shot every year in non-mass shootings".

If you're going to argue for gun control, the only reasonable line here is between greatly restricting private handgun ownership (or banning it entirely) and not. Not trying to play command and control at the level of deciding how many bullets somebody's allowed to put inside the gun.
