After months of speculation, Mickey Rourke's agent has confirmed that The Expendables star wants to play Gareth Thomas - the first openly gay rugby player - in a movie about his life.
And not only does Rourke want to direct, he's keen to remove his two front teeth in order to make the portrayal more realistic.
Last year, Rourke was spotted dining with Thomas, which started rumours that he would produce the movie and possibly play a parental role. Not so, says agent Emanuele Paladino.
"Mickey wants to film everything in Wales, although it is early days," says Paladino. "He really wants to throw himself into Welsh and rugby and really learn as quickly as he can. He'll learn Welsh I think, obviously where it is relevant as well. He is going to get rid of his two front teeth and stuff - he will be taking them out. Mickey intends to get as close to the character as he can, as he thinks it is a great story."
It certainly is a great story but the fact Rourke is willing to go to the extreme of removing teeth makes it even more interesting. Talk about the method...
Unfortunately, the question is can Rourke actually pull the role off? He's 20 years older than Thomas and, let's be honest, he's had so much surgery to his face he doesn't even look natural anymore. Surely having his teeth taken out would only add to the bizarreness rather than the believability?
