I don't dispute apartheid is clearly a primarily racist policy. Would they have gone to war to protect that right? The North didn't seem to want to go to war to prevent it.

Albie. Talking to you as a man - read what I wrote and don't make assumptions about my comments. I am disinclined to address your comments when they assume something that I did not say. Mostly you appear to be reading part of what I wrote, and then ignoring key words and purpose.

e.g. I didn't say that people in the South weren't racist. I alluded to it strongly in my first post in the thread. I said that finding something quoted in a contemporary document could mean it is a pretext. However you responded with references to Jim Crow laws as an example that the South was racist.

Some people in the South are racists. Some in the North are racists. Not all of the racism involves black and white.

Jim Crow was a southern thing Sloww. Black people may have faced racism in the north but it wasn't institutionalized.
