Because only the static cache server is down -- static images. Avatars are tied to VBulletin.
And the server is not down. It's alive and well. They just "forgot" to change the DNS when they switched servers."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

Yes, because ideally it is running some kind of caching software (Varnish or the like).
