I've no problem with free lunches, so long as we're honest when we get them.

I am all for free university education, assuming they're not getting something useless like a liberal arts degree.

I also think university students should receive free lunches.

I'm fine with devaluing real degrees now that I'm no longer entry level.

It's not a free lunch. Just like when my dad buys my food it isn't a free lunch.

Given this statement I can understand you not wanting students to take economics classes.

                It is for you.

The fact that you have a dad who is alive, around, and with money just makes you eligible for your free lunch. Not everyone is so lucky.

What makes you more qualified for a good post-secondary education than an equivalent student with equal marks and ambitions?

Should we not have a merit-based schooling system?

                    Also:

Yes, somebody is always paying. No one denies that.

The difference is you had a daddy, others are not so fortunate. Money should not determine who gets to learn.

People inherit intelligence, looks, physical abilities, etc from their parents, is money really all that different? As I mentioned before by the way, it is still not a free lunch even though my parents are paying for it.

Economics is in the school of liberal arts at most colleges. ;P

Oh, I'm fine with having the goverment pay for social sciences.

Yes, redistributing money is relatively easy. Also, money is a social construct.

It's very, very telling that you equate monetary status with all of those things.

FWIW, it's not quite true that they INHERIT those things. Genealogy plays a role, but to say they are inherited is silly.

As I mentioned before by the way, it is still not a free lunch even though my parents are paying for it.
It IS a free lunch for you.

No one is claiming education is expense-free. The difference is you cannot figure out that students who get the community to pay for their education are just as much getting a free lunch as someone whose daddy pays. To the student, it's free.

In a free society, children should not be burdened by the failings of their parents. Don't you agree?

Redistributing money is inefficient and the transaction costs often exceed the redistribution as people adjust their activities to qualify for the handouts.
