Lots of Austrians had probably crossed the border into Italy to make their bribes.

Well our percentage appears to be very low. I'm surprised with the recent politicians we have had who are more bent than FIFA...

I think this is the poll for regular people, and not special interests... after 15 years in UK, did not have to bribe anyone, not a single time to get anything done... even though getting things done in UK is often so dreadfully slow and inefficient that reintroducing bribing might be a good idea to actually get some incentive back into the system... in any case, as it is 1% sounds about right...

Well I have certainly never encountered bribery in everyday life...

when i was in the ice cream business i encountered practices which i would describe as corrupt. nothing involving me personally (as i explained to the judge!), but apart from that, never really encoutered anything.

The ice cream business is a notoriously criminal, though.

Frankly the US number should be far higher. Corruption and bribery is so ingrained in your political culture that you've given it a euphemism: "lobbying".

That's political, not bureaucratic corruption, and there is an important difference.

Yes, political corruption makes a far larger impact on the country.

The real problem is that the US is having laws passed not in the interest of its citizens, but because wealthy corporate interests bribe THEIR "representatives".

I encounter bribery and corruption on a daily basis. I am starting to get prejudiced against certain groups because of it too.

This is an absurd exaggeration. At worst, the corporations influence earmarks and other discretionary spending. On the main issues representatives all vote the party line anyways, and the party doesn't really respond to "corporate interests" at all. Further, this mainly occurs at the federal level.

If we got rid of campaign finance reform (McCain-Feingold) the problem would virtually go away
