  • I'm willing to bet a platoon of modern-day gay soldiers armed with Victorian-era weaponry would be able to decimate a platoon of straight Victorian-era soldiers without too much trouble.

What are these Victorian values and discipline and what advantage would they give? There was no formal military training comparable to what infantrymen receive in the US today until very recently. There's just no comparison.

      • The rank-and-file Victorian soldier was essentially cannon fodder. When you have expected losses in the thousands for just a day's worth of fighting on a single field, it would be a waste of time, energy and resources to give them the kind of training modern-day soldiers get.

        • And the sexual repression of the Victorian era led to catastrophic problems. Men who otherwise could be getting laid to ease their stress instead engaged in Byzantine international scheming, leading directly to World War I and the deaths of millions because someone blew up an inbred Archduke.

          • The US Marine Corps didn't even have formal infantry training until 1953. The US Army didn't have their infantry school until 1934.

You should be happy, your threads are normally much shorter and quickly degenerate into "BK vs the rest" futile-post-fests of ignorance.
