After 8 years in Korea, I sold all my gold and silver (bought in 2007-8) and now I've bought:
a) A large poultry farm near Kampot, Cambodia, 1.5 hours from the sea by boat. Don't call it a Chicken Farm, as the english-speaking girl I was trying to hire informed that is a local term for a Grade "F" whorehouse.
b) A paintball range business, locally known as 'Gotcha!' and a popular game for young Khmers with money (there are lots; there are just lots more poor)
c) A fish farm for eels.
What an adventure! Beats working for The Man. I now have a squad of real workers and some tenant-farmers who seem to exist only to smoke, eat, and excrete. The most difficult things were not financial, but personality-related.
I needed local managers/overseers/whatevers for the different businesses, and the most important, my representative/agent/'face' who can lie for me and make sure no one knows it's a 'farang' (foreigner) buying the feed/land/whatever. She saves me from paying x10 for everything and basically makes everything possible.
Fun stuff:
-small children with M-16s
-kids on motorbikes.
-giant leeches
-****ing blasting karaoke in the middle of the jungle!!
-Crazy people
-A bat**** insane neighbour with his Vietnam surplus jeep and machine guns.
It's certainly been a real adventure!!
