    Just read a news scroll claiming some new study gives that as their estimate

    so, how many grains of sand on Earth?

    i believe it's 300 sextillion and 42, but i could of miscounted by one or two

          a) It's a 3 followed by 23 0s
          b) If we assume that the earth is covered by sand to a depth of 10 m, that it is packed with density 1, that an individual sand grain is a cube 0.5mm on a side, we get that there are approximately 4 followed by 24 0s grains of sand on Earth
          c) Technically, this is an estimate of the number of stars in the visible universe. The universe may well be infinite

            23 is like the exponent of choice for people who try to confuse with the magnitude of numbers... that or 28, I can't remember

                    6.022x10^23 is Avogadro's Number, which isn't that far from the current estimate.
