    ‘Ground Zero Mosque’ Outrage
    November 23, 2010 - 11:35 AM | by: Eric Shawn

He wants your money. The developer of the so called "Ground Zero Mosque" is applying for federal taxpayer money to help him build the controversial and contentious project. The funds are designated to help lower Manhattan recover from the 9-11 terrorist attacks, which took place just around the corner from the proposed mosque and cultural center location.

Sharif El-Gamal, the head of SOHO Properties, says the money will be used for a variety of services for Park51, as the project is called.

In a statement, El-Gamal said he is, "…committed to exploring all sources of revenue and funding to build the community center," noting that the request for a reported $5 million would help provide "social service programs....such as domestic violence prevention, Arabic and other foreign language classes, programs and services for homeless veterans, two multi-cultural arts exhibits and immigration services."

El-Gamal did not specify exactly how much of the taxpayers' funds would be allocated to "build the community center."

"It's absolutely disgraceful," said an angry Congressman Peter King (R-NY) who is likely to be the new chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.

"It goes entirely against the spirit of the fund," King told Fox News. "It's an affront to the memory of all those who were murdered on 9-11. There are so many worthwhile projects in lower Manhattan. This shows a gross insensitivity to the most fundamental feelings of New Yorkers and to those murdered on 9-11 it is a slap in the face that is a terrible insult."

King also notes that the reported $5 million request represents nearly one-third of all the $17 million that is now available. 265 groups have applied for the funding.

"It's the height of arrogance, that is really desecrating the memory of the lives that were lost that day," says construction worker Andy Sullivan, who is behind the group 911hardhatpledge.com which opposes the project. He says 45,000 people have logged onto the website to support his effort.

"He's going to take the money that I work for? That gets taken out of my paycheck, to fund something that I am completely and absolutely against? Not on my watch."
These people are unbelievable. They're attacking a peaceful Muslim place of worship, that has even added in to its design places for other religions as well, out of their overwhelming islamophobia. This isn't the way America should be.

It's pretty disgusting that anyone in this country would ever defend this mosque, especially when these people are now asking for money from our government to fund their cultural take over of America. You should move to Europe if you like muslims so much since it won't be long before muslims make up the majority and you'll be able to find a minaret on every corner.

They should not receive a single nickel from the taxpayers, but in general opposition to the so-called GZ Mosque has been silly knee-jerk ignorance. Anyway, we argued all this months back.

It's not silly knee-jerk reaction. It's absolutely ridiculous that we allow these people to exist in this country in the first place really. These are the same people that say 9/11 was our fault and that we just don't understand the middle east. I'm looking forward to the day when we no longer need oil and we can just let the muslim world eat sand since that's the only other thing they have to offer besides terrorism.

We definitely do not understand the Middle East, but to say that 9/11 was our fault is a drastic oversimplification. Almost as drastic an oversimplification as the moronic identification of all Muslims with terrorism. There are over a million Muslims in the US, at the very least. It's hard to say for certain, since the Census Bureau doesn't collect stats on religious belief, but one million is the lowest figure I've found. It goes as high as nine million, or did last time I bothered to check Wiki (after a similarly silly argument with BK).

Anyway, say one million Muslims. Cut that number in half to eliminate women (assuming jihad is a man's job), and cut that number in half to eliminate the very old and very young. Hell, just reduce it to 100K, there have to be that many adult Muslim men. One hundred thousand combat-ready people who, according to you, have been trained in terrorist ideology. 9/11 was accomplished by 19 foreigners, with assistance from well under a thousand others. They killed several thousand people. In the nine years since, AT LEAST 100K eligible fedayeen have been roaming around America freely. How many American citizens have since died in the US? I'm too lazy to dig and add, but I guarantee it's far less than a thousand. That jackass at Ft. Hood went nuts after communicating with a foreign radical and...I think a couple of white people with a history of mental instability have "converted" after similar exposures and done likewise. Oh, and I think the Beltway sniper was nominally Muslim, but he was doing it for blackmail.

What kind of lame-ass jihad is that?

And how many of those agree in principle with the Muslims? How many of them actively speak out against terrorism? How many of them say things like, "While I don't support terrorism I understand their cause and I believe the US is partly to blame"? Face it, Islam is not compatible with the western world. It never was and it never will be. The Islamic world is moving backwards and becoming more and more radicalized. You need only look at Turkey and Egypt as examples.

Wow, you're a real bigot Drixnak. I'm amazed you have so little tolerance for cultures that aren't similar to your own. If people like you ever were to take charge of this country this country would be done for. Oh yeah, that did happen. We had eight years of Bush after all.

I missed the part in there where you explained why our thousands of homegrown terrorists aren't out there piloting vehicles into buildings. I mean, damn, they've had nine years and we can't possibly watch all of them. Oh, I know! It's because Muslims are also necessarily Democrats, which means they're all ineffectual pussies who can't do anything right!

Oh no! The evil muslims! Seriously, Republicans and neocons are responsible for far more murders than Muslims could ever commit.

Someone once said "better to keep silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and remove all doubt." I can't recall who, exactly, but it's a highly applicable quote under the circumstances.
