World leaders attending the NATO summit in Lisbon, Portugal, zipped around in zero-emission electric vehicles. Journalists covering the event hopped aboard electric buses to get from venue to venue.

And President Barack Obama's eight-ton, diesel-fueled armored limousine dubbed "the Beast" drew even more attention than usual.

Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates and the president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, meanwhile, had arrived earlier in quiet, zero-emission electric cars.

When amused Portuguese reporters asked about the mixed message, Socrates diplomatically told them: "I'd like to underline the priority both our countries assign to renewable energy and electric vehicles."

So at a green summit, all the other world leaders rode in zero-emission vehicles while Obama rode in an 8-ton diesel-guzzling armored Cadillac called "the Beast"...

You know, as much as I dislike Obama, the only thing I would dislike more is for somebody to veto America's choice by assassinating our president. I may disagree with his policies but the fact that America got to pick is more important to me than anything he does.

Given this, and the fact that the President is at constant risk of assassination, I wouldn't be miffed if "the Beast" cost 4 times as much as it does and came equipped with a force field.

Not sure what your post is directed at, it's out of the blue. But on the final comment, it is also about how much reverance and quasi-worship Americans (as a nation) give to the role of President that whoever fills that role is a target.
