I don't think you know that Jewish culture was destroyed when they were conquered by the Babylonians. When the Persians allowed them to return and recreate their culture the texts of Genesis had to be interpreted.Originally posted by C0ckney View Postpeople really did believe in the literal word of the bible in olden times.I drank beer. A lot do get a choice, but choose not to follow Jesus. And Jesus allows them to make their choice (see the young rich ruler in the gospel of Luke). However, some (like people of certain times and cultures) don't get a choice during their lives, but the Book of Revelations says that they get a choice on the day of The Great White Throne Judgement. I don't want to speculate on why God does things that way.Originally posted by gribbler View PostOkay, so God decided to let people choose whether they wanna walk through walls and stuff. But that leaves the question of why so many people have gone through life without knowing about Christianity. They don't appear to get a choice. Why do some people get such an important opportunity and others don't?Last edited by Kidlicious; December 1, 2010, 14:43.I drank beer. I like beer. I still like beer. ... Do you like beer Senator?

I can't say there is anything surprising about Kid ending up as a religious person - he wasn't particularly rational to begin with.
Imran is the one I can't quite figure, but for now I'm putting that down as due to the girl.

The trick isn't to break some eggs to make an omelette, it's convincing the eggs to break themselves in order to aspire to omelettehood.

he did a great job of misunderstanding marxism, now he's doing the same for Christianity."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

and kid, i'm certainly in the dark about what the heck your response to me in post 122 had to do with the bit you quoted or the wider point i was making in my post?"The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.

You've demonstrated your misunderstanding here in this thread. Plus you pretend to disagree with me about something but aren't specific about what. Instead you simply insult me.Originally posted by C0ckney View Posthe did a great job of misunderstanding marxism, now he's doing the same for Christianity.I drank beer. I like beer. I'm explaining to you why the creation story is sometimes taken literally.Originally posted by C0ckney View Postand kid, i'm certainly in the dark about what the heck your response to me in post 122 had to do with the bit you quoted or the wider point i was making in my post?I drank beer. Being 'rational' to you probably means making money or something like that. So point well taken.Originally posted by Arrian View PostI can't say there is anything surprising about Kid ending up as a religious person - he wasn't particularly rational to begin with.I drank beer. if you read back you'll notice that i skipped over what you said because i suspected it was irrelevant and moved straight on to insulting you for not knowing anything about anything.
i've already made several points in this thread. feel free to actually pick up on any of them..."The Christian way has not been tried and found wanting, it has been found to be hard and left untried" - GK Chesterton.
