I stopped reading as soon as you said it was streamlined for MP.

No Wonder Movies, happiness nationwide not cityspecific, much smaller Armies etc.
Do those Design Decision sound like they would enhance the Single Player Experience? As Firaxis is making Strategy Games for quite some Time I dont assume they would have a goal in mind.
Streamlining for MP does explain all of the Above ( watching Wonder Movies while People wait for your turn can be rude, less Micro Management and faster Turns respectivly) I am of course open to other Explainations, yet at this point it fits all too well.
@ Nikolai: I am not sure what your point is. Should this Game not be bought before two expansions are out? Or to put it in another way why would I buy the Game now, knowing it will be better (ParadoxGames
layable) only in the distant Future? Shouldn't I postpone the buying ( and get a far better deal moneywise and playwise later)? Why should I support a company, which is no small independent company, now that delivers a product which does not met my wishes?
=) First of all congratulations on your No-Buy Decision. Good Choice from my POV. I wish I had followed it more closely :/Originally posted by Elok View PostMain Brain, despite the title, this thread is not actually about Civ5 (which I never even considered buying, since every pre-release tidbit of information made me want it less). It's a standard "AAHZ acts like a dingus while we all struggle to find as-yet-unused synonyms for 'retarded'" thread.
But I am taking this thread back to Topic. Not for me, not for you but for the all of us. And the Children, noone thinks of the Children.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

My point is, that everyone keeps saying "this game is horrible, it's nothing like Civ4. Civ4 was awesome", but the truth is it's quite a good and enjoyable game already, if not Civ4 quality just yet. But Civ4 wasn't tip top either before long into its shelf life.Originally posted by Main_Brain View Post@ Nikolai: I am not sure what your point is. You're pretty ****ing stupid so I'll help you out. It's not streamlining, it's simplification. In other words, Firaxis figured out that you're stupid too and decided you couldn't handle something more complex and that requires more micromanagement. The wonder movie example is just plain idiocy, especially since the option to turn off wonder movies has been around since civilization 2. The smaller armies, again, is to reduce the amount of work involved in playing the game. They deemed more units to be tedious. Personally, I'm not sad to see the huge stacks being moved from point A to point B removed since it was completely mindless. That being said, the game has so many issues and flaws it's ridiculous. As far as MP goes, MP was just barely even included in the game. The code is so terrible that it's not even playable. Everyone, including most the diehards, have quit MP while they wait for some patch in the future. The more rabid fanboys are claiming that an expansion pack will fix everything and everyone should just wait patiently to buy the expansion pack that will surely have perfect MP in it.No Wonder Movies, happiness nationwide not cityspecific, much smaller Armies etc.

You sound like someone who is new to Civilization and who has never played MP.
