If it turns out to be a Remembrance Day poppy, my contempt will reach record levels.

I'm sure it must be. And yes.

Hopefully BeBro will feel a little embarrassed when he finds out.

                      O-Ha!

But why would I feel embarrassed, we don't have the same day, but a similar one on a different date (also described in the Wiki article), plus the poppy symbolism in relation to WWI is rather unknown here...and of course the people wearing the sign now are nearly two weeks early

Ah ok. I thought it was fairly universal symbol. Certainly German ministers have been involved in the remembrance services before. Possibly even veterans.

I think there is a certain element of ostentatious piety which regrettably creeps into many commemorations of this type. Wearing poppies on, or a day or two before, the 11th is apparently not enough for those who see the need for a sort-of 'advent' period leading up to the day itself.

It has almost become scandalous for any politician or person appearing on the BBC not to wear a Poppy late October/November. They get letters if anyone is seen without one.

This is the problem with people who insist on writing letters at every possible opportunity they can find to wind themselves up over some perceived 'outrage'. Basically they're ****ing wierdos but they wield ridiculous amounts of power and influence. The BBC should grow a pair and tell the letter-writing loonies in polite but no uncertain terms to go **** themselves.
