I meant "thinner" in terms of viscosity-literally how the liquid felt-and also the finish, which seemed a bit shorter.

Looks like it's hard to get the 15 y.o. Glenfarclas here - shipped to the US, it's as much as the 17. Would the 12 be missing the point?

If you are looking for a more "fat" consistence, then you should try Penderyn. Both taste and viscosity is kind of oily and certainly not peaty. It's not superb, but I like it and intend to have it as part of my collection of whiskeys.

Only problem is that it's a small Welsh distillery, so it might not be easy to get on your side of the pond.

Please note that I feel quite uncomfortable writing this - it's by MOBIUS reccomendation I tried it, and I hate when he is right

Don't feel too badly. It happens infrequently.

BTW, did you bother checking the links that I posted, or is all of this just a rhetorical question?

Me? Yes, I looked, but they're not overly useful to somebody who doesn't speak whiskey. That's why I was asking people instead of Google.

It says exactly what it smells and tastes like. You just want an opinion, based off nothing but personal preference?
Cool. I'll say Talisker, which was on the long list Drake gave you.

And, pre-emptively: Yes, I may know what chocolate or honey taste like, but not within the context of a whiskey.

12 year old Glenfarclas is still very good.

If you're looking for that "thick" quality, look for ones that aren't chill-filtered. They will either advertise the fact, or have an alcohol content of 46% plus.

                  Ah, ok, thanks.

btw, BlackCat, it seems that Penderyn is relatively easy to get here...interesting.

I found something quite interesting last week - a new destillery on Isle of Islay. It's called Kilchoman and was established in 2005. It may sound crazy to drink 5 yo whisky, but it's actually quite good considering (can't wait for their 10 year release in 2016). It's heavily peaty (the pusher said 50 ppm) and you don't want more than a single glass or two at a time. As a 5 yo, you could expect a heavy alcohol taste, but without any other comparison, it's more like a Laphroaig quarter casket than a std 10 yo.

If you can find it near you, then I think it's worth a try despite it's pretty pricy (475 DKK ~ $90 - danish taxes is a bit high, so it might be cheaper elsewhere)

Note. The bastards have made both a summer and a winter edition, and I chose the winter wich should be the more peaty - anyone volonteering in testing the summer ed ?
