  • I thought there was a whiskey thread

...but now I can't find it, even with a search.

I've never really been a big whiskey drinker, but when I had a layover in Dublin I picked up a bottle of this and have been pleasantly surprised. The bottle is running low now...where should I go next? Educate me, Apolyton!

    Jameson?

The thread won't show up with google nor Poly search.

Irish Whiskey is still pretty uncharted territory for me, unfortunately. Just had Jameson, which was okay.

By all means stick with Irish, if mediocrity is your preference.

I am Irish (in the way of Americans who are not allowed to just be American) and thus mediocrity is my expectation, not my preference.

          What should I get then?

I'm thinking of getting my brother a bottle for Xmas, but I'd really have no idea what to get him. Scotch, naturally. He got me a Christmas bottle of The Macallan years back "to get me off that Glenfiddich crap." He likes Oban, but I think that's somewhat out of my budget? I'd like to get him something unusual, maybe not quite as unusual as Laphroiag or however you spell it.

Depends what your budget is. Oban doesn't have to be that expensive.

Caol Ila could be a good option. Something like this:

Jon Miller: MikeH is a shockingly revolting dolt and a masturbatory urine-reeking sideshow freak whose word is as valuable as an aging cow paddy.
              We've got both kinds

Black Bottle is a reasonably priced Islay blend.

Try Caol Ila, maybe Laproaigh quarter casket if you like something with a "strong" taste. Otherwise Dalwhinnie or Glenfiddich 15-18 y.o.

Avoid the 10 yo, Laproaigh for a while - it's good, but it isn't for "children"

Forgot one thing, try google "caol ila site:apolyton.net" - that should give some interesting threads.

Good excuse for a night cap!
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

Yeah. Though, accidentaly bought a second bottle of it instead of another I was looking for, so I have almost two bottles of it, and it takes time to get rid of it

Bourbon is Whiskey. Why aren't we talking about that. Or Rye?

                          1. Jameson is for filthy papists. If you must drink Irish whiskey, choose Bushmills.

Well, if you want to discuss the quality of Johnnie Walker Red label, I guess that we could take those into the discusson
