Still, in real terms, the US is a lot less free than Canada. Which is why all of this obsession with "freedom" baffles me.

I find it particularly amusing that many politicians/Americans assert Al Qaeda hates America because they hate "Freedom", while they start enacting new laws which severely inhibit the freedom of its citizens...

I don't think it's particularly obvious that Canada is freer than the US or that the US is freer than Canada.

I do think it's more apparent that both are somewhat freer than much of Europe. Even for that comparison a case can be made in the opposite direction, though...
