No. The Rolling Stones + The Who = the definition of rock and roll. Queen + David Bowie = the definition of fruity guys who kinda sorta played something resembling rock and roll when they weren't dabbling in opera or electronica.

Yes, and "rock and roll" generally refers to the black, Chuck Berry-esque form that the Stones were heavily influenced by. Terms like "arena rock" and "glam rock" were invented precisely to differentiate between straight up rock and roll and the whiter sub-genres that developed over time.Comment

As a musician, I care very much about genre definitions; being careless with them is how I end up getting lumped in as "hip-hop" with bustas like Kanye West and the Black Eyed Peas. I'm ****ing sick of that...Comment
