Famous Battlefields you've visited

Last week I took a battlefield tour of the Battle of the Boyne

Basically the battle that kept Ireland under English yoke, the fact that Northern Ireland is still British, and the fact that the pesky Orange Order still marches on 'The Twelfth' to generally stick two fingers up to the Catholics - basically a pretty massive deal to Irish people!

So, who's been where then...?

I've been to the Falklands.

I remember being really excited as a child by that war and following each day's events with avid interest! The first action by the British Expeditionary Force was retaking South Georgia on my birthday!

You didn't visit back in 1982, I hope...

It would have been a feat, seing as I was born two years later

I did go before Argentines were allowed to enter the isles, with my Swiss passport. It was definitely interesing.

Two aircraft carriers-- I believe its the Midway in San Diego and the Lexington in Corpus Christie

I've been around Berlin where stuff has happened, and I have been to many 17th C battlefields near me.

i once visited the scorched and charred earth of the 'which is the best main battle tank thread'

more seriously, i used to live in langport which was the site of battle towards to tail end of the english civil war (or war of the three kingdoms if you prefer). i also visited marston moor (another civil war battlefield) for reasons which escape me now.

'Visiting' the Battle of Germantown isn't very meaningful though because it occurred IN Philadelphia so I can actually say things like I used to work at a McDonalds at the battlefield of the Battle of Germantown I've been to the battlefield like 1000 times in my life. I did see the recreation when I was younger though on the anniversary of the battle.

I live in Lithuania. It was famous for being a premier hosting facility for a large number of battles between Germans, French, Russians, Swedes, with locals sometimes qualifying as well, from about 13th century onwards. A bit like Wimbledon, really. I basically live on one giant battlefield

There's always one smart ass...

I was more thinking of visiting a clearly defined spot, usually commemorated with a memorial etc, so you can really take it in and try and image what happened from the perspective of both sides.

Using your argument, I bet we've all visited the sites of countless battles worldwide, whether knowing about it or not...
