Probably... or how Sacha Baron Cohen views it... I don't think the average American even knew what Kazakhstan was until Borat's movie and all they know about it is Borat's representation, which I suspect is not accurate at all... I know Kazakhs were mad because he portrayed Kazakhstan in such negative ways saying women don't have rights, etc. things which were untrue.

The other thing is that Kazakhs aren't Middle Eastern... they're Asians... They're related to the Mongols.

Obviously, Sacha Baron Cohen couldn't easily portray himself as an Asian and it really wasn't what he was going for. He's trying to satirize Arabs (which he has done before with Ali G) but going obscure with Kazakhstan and, as a result, being very wrong.

Correct but again, Im a little ignorant in what is the difference between satire and say a comedic view.

I side with Satire because I grew up cutting my teeth in the 60's with Mad magazine and Alfred E Neumann, he allways has a satirical view of movies and politicians...

Thanks Al B. Sure, and I dont think the country he says he is from is as he represents, it was humorous in some points, crass and tastless in others but nonetheless, poking some fun and trying to have a laugh

I'm sorry for going so in depth... I just find that most Americans have no knowledge of the outside world and to see a country like Kazakhstan get portrayed in the mass media for the first time and for it to be so wrong, it's a little disturbing.

I agree but remeber its a comedy and should be taken with the lightest of regards.

I have the utmost respect for Canadians but Strange Brew is so darned funny to me, Im part Canadian and grew up in 60's on Quebec Border (pronounced KeBeck) and in 70's on New Brunswick border, no very few Canadians are like these two...but people bask Americans, and well, kinda need to have a lighthearted approach especially when viewing who did it...

Borat is claerly a satire of the poor former soviet block east/south east europeans countries, especially those with many gypsies. It is more of a satire of Romania than Kazakhstan, he only chose Kazakhstan because it is a convenient country for him, no one knows anything about that country.
