I'm not very well-versed in science fiction or anything, but every video game, tv show, and movie that I can think of that depicts humans in space depicts the space travelers nautically.
In everything but Stargate (where the US Air Force is running things), it's clear that everything has a naval origin with naval command structure, naval ranks, naval ship designations, soldiers being space Marines, etc.
Is there science fiction where that isn't the case?
It's strange because you'd think an air force would be commanding space exploration and combat.
Hell, even in Independence Day, it was Marine aviators that attacked the alien space ship, not US Air Force.
