Meh. Don't like being logged into Google all the time. And I pretty much always use the search bar in the browser anyway.

Alby, while I'm sure you're analysis is stunningly indepth, Google implements these changes after tons of testing and data analysis.

It's statistically proven to be substantially faster in the average case.

Do you see why intuitively it shouldn't be faster?

(although to be honest, the average person is retarded when it comes to google searching. I'm amazed sometimes how people treat it like something they are supposed to type questions into and crazy mess like that; seems like a lot of people have no concept of how search engines work or any understanding of what search terms are supposed to be)

No, because your assumption that people cannot type and scan the screen simultaneously is incorrect.

Even if they just type it in while looking at the keyboard (in the case of a computer novice), then they don't need to click "google" and wait for the results -- they're already on the screen.

Again, I thought we were assuming average retarded people who type slowly, need to look at the keyboard as they type, and can't function in 3-dimensional space... like baby boomers or something

If they're looking at the keyboard as they type, why the hell do you make the assumption that they stop and read the screen after each press? They shouldn't look up til they're done typing.

Haha... but then they can't take advantage of the Instant search! With how you describe where they finish typing then there's no improvement over traditional searching.

That's my point. To take advantage of the Instant search and get your search result at the moment it first comes up (ie- with that pivotal keystroke), requires a constant looking at the screen and back down.

In order to take advantage of the speedy feature, they have to actually operate more slowly!

And like I said, any searching where you're not looking for a specific webpage, there's no advantage to be had with this method.

Yes they can -- by the time they're done typing, the query is up. No need to click 'search' with the mouse like most of them would.

                  That's my point.

I guess hitting enter is beyond them.

From my observations, most do that triumphant hard press of enter when they're done typing. Enter is something so iconic of computers that even they do it.
