          There's always the possibility that some ardent admirers of pedways could be shocked by the sudden and violent finish to their journey and so need a warning to awake from their revery of the moment.

          They really could be moving sidewalks.

            Well, I have never heard it in europe, so I guess that it is to avoid legal claims from americans that can't figure out how to use such an thingy.

                Vijaya Lakshmi, a visitor from India who is not used to escalators, fell when the speed increased, and remained seated. Another rider helped her get up before reaching the top so her dress would not get caught in the steps.

                    Does anyone else ever have this problem where if the escalator has broken down and is not moving, your brain automatically compensates for getting on and off them and you still have a jolt getting on and off, even though it is, in effect, just a set of stairs?
