Good to be reminded that you are as much of a ****er as he.
Nice attempt at a save, but let's recap:

HC: "people are being stupid by excessively worrying about short-term impacts on food safety"

GePap: "I object! it's not stupid at all to worry about long-term environmental impacts! additionally, I would like to specifically note that I am responding to your post"

Wow - I can't decide whether you are being massively disingenuous, or massively stupid.

HC - "most" of the damage" from the Deepwater Horizon incident [note- a massive oil spill following and explosion that killed 11 workers] is an irrational fear of food contamination

Me - no you idiot, "most" of the damage from a massive oil spill is not fear of food contamination (which may or may not be valid) but the massive environmental damage caused by a massive oil spill, which is what happened after the Deepwater Horison platform blew up (incidentally killing 11 people, which is something that might be considered damage).

Er, to be fair, HC did state that the people worrying over the food safety was "most of the damage" caused by the spill, and I think it's that idea that GePap is arguing against...

        *sigh* X-post...

It's most of the short term damage, the long term damage is currently incalculable, but some reports suggest it could be next to none, while others are nigh-doomsday. I was referring to short term since NO ONE has any actual idea what the long term damages could possibly be. The best they have is remote extrapolation.

My point was that the damage would be substantially less if there weren't so much that was entirely in people's minds.

Much of the long term damage could plausibly be similar as well, consumer safety bull**** and all.

As much as I hate to belabor this sort of he-said-she-said argument, I really can't indulge this kind of blatant revisionism within the span of nine posts, Boris. HC says "most of the damage is that people are stupid and therefore believe X" and GePap responds with "I disagree that it's stupid to believe Y". So, no, GePap didn't address HC's point, and therefore it is ironic/amusing/what have you that he forcefully declared that he had done so.
