Two months ago I hired a cleaning service to do basic house cleaning because I'm basically lazy and it is nice to have someone else do stuff for me rather then actually get up off of my ass and do it myself. For $80 a month a have a Mexican house cleaner come in twice a month for two hours each time to vacuum, dust, clean the floors, clean the toilets and showers, sweep the patio, sweep he front walk, do the dishes, etc... Honestly, it's pretty nice. Sure, I have to maintain the place when she isn't here but that's easy and then she does all the actual cleaning plus between my two room mates and girlfriend chipping in I only have to pay 1/4th the price or about $20 a month and for that I get most of the cleaning done. All I do is keep stuff generally clean, load dishes into the dishwasher, etc... and then the cleaning lady does the rest. I honestly don't think this would be possible, certainly not for just $80 per month without hordes of illegal Mexican workers willing to do labor for a tiny salary.

Best of all, I hire the cleaning service and they hire the help so technically they're contractors so I don't have to worry about illegally employing undocumented immigrants. That's the contractor's job to verify that stuff. Cheap labor is good. I do have to pay $350 per month for the HOA (but my renters actually end up paying most of that) and then they hire gardeners to maintain the common areas and the front yards. I don't think it is an accident that all the gardeners end up being Mexicans who can barely speak English. Life is good.

if she also works for other people she probably makes around 500 dollars which is around the minimun monthly wage here. Healthcare is free.

Home owners association. Some places in the US don't get things like rubbish collections, area maintenance for free and have to pay for them. Much in the same way you'd have to pay building maintenance on a flat here. Stuff our council tax pays for. $350 a month is enormous compared to our local taxes though.

$20 an hour for cleaning being "cheap labour" is hilarious, although the middleman company probably takes most of that.

Like that bastard Mike said, the middle man takes most of it but it's worth it so that I don't have to put up with INS problems. Yes, if I wanted to I could probably hire a Mexican lady directly and pay at least half (if not less) but I don't want to deal with the tax trouble. BTW, yes, we do get ****ed by HOAs. In the US people are very short sighted and refuse to pay taxes and so things like HOAs are thought up as a way to outsource government services while the retards feel better because even if they pay more at least they aren't paying it to the government.

BTW the HOA pays for things like paving the private streets, maintaining all outside walls of structures, replacing garage doors, maintaining the pool, the hot tub, the basketball courts, the beach volleyball pit, the public greens open to owners, fixing things if your house get termites, gardening and taking care of the front yards, etc... It's kind of expensive but you do get a lot for your money.

You could have a similar situation here, with a community that paid all those services, but they'd still have to contribute to the local taxes, which cover communal things like police and street lighting as well as paving local roads rubbish collection etc.
