The first episode seemed more focused on his wife and daughter rather than the wider family. So I'd say the comparison with the Godfather isn't that strong based on the first episode. But anyway yeah, I didn't really like the Godfather all that much either, and don't feel all that much affinity with a strong family morality. I think a morality based on genetic rather than memetic/ideological similarity is primitive and animal-like.
