  • Problem with autopay! #@&*

I had autopay set up on one of my credit card accounts (citibank amex if it matters) to pay the full balance on the due date of each period. Recently, I spent $1700 on a laptop and transfered the balance to a new card that has 0% APR on balance transfers for 12 months.

I was a little worried about the autopay kicking in so I changed the settings to minimum payment only. Once the balance transfer kicked in, I thought I was clear so I set it back to full balance.

THE STUPID THING PAID THE $1700!

    How is this possible?

06/22/2010 ELECTRONIC PAYMENT-THANK YOU -$1,700.00 (this was the balance transfer)
    07/03/2010 AUTOPAY AUTO-PMT -$1,998.04

11 days after the balance transfer, it paid it off?!

Now I have a CREDIT of $1500 on my account. I highly doubt citibank is going to wire cash into my checking account now. What the hell?

Anyone have an experience like this? What should I do?

You're talking to us instead of your bank? How do you tie your shoes in the morning without electrocuting yourself?

I'd like to watch that. I can't even imagine such.

I paid $2000 to the wrong credit card once, I called them up and they transferred it back to my bank account forthwith.

Probably because his bank is closed at the moment...

It is so hard to believe he didn't view the transaction until now?

I just viewed this now. I didn't think anything of it because I assumed it wouldn't attempt to autopay a balance that was already transferred to a different card. Sorry if that wasn't a fair assumption! 11 days passed since the transfer before the autopay kicked in.

Is it so hard to believe that talking to a bunch of anonymous posters on an Internet forum and conjecturing about the problem from positions of no authority and no direct access to good and complete information (his accounts, his bank's policies and practices) is probably a great way for him to get bad advice from us?

Instead of just giving snarky replies to everything, sometimes posters give GOOD advice about real problems and, when in the absence of good and complete information about the problem, instead direct the questioner to go talk to someone in authority in real life instead of us because we might not give proper or useful advice in a particular situation and may possibly make things worse. And we'll wrap that advice up in a snarky package.

Hell, Mr. Fun posted his "I was almost suicidal" about two days after it happened. Not sure about you, but not everyone posts threads detailing the events in their lives as if they were posting to Twitter. Some people ponder for a bit before posting. There have been plenty of threads were posters were asking real questions about real problems in their real lives. Sometimes posters were able to answer from positions of authority, sometimes we had to direct the questioner to go ask someone in real life instead of us.

Get a sense of humor, Shane. Some perspective might be useful too.
