You know I've been in a similar state not too long ago, of course with the difference of 2 kids at home who made suicide a VERY unlikely option, simply for their psychological sake (but don't believe I didn't think about it, I already was on the balcony, checking the possibilities).

I realize Fun won't read this but on the off chance he does, Having lived through depression and a spouse that had serious spells of depression, sacking up and manning up sounds all fine and well but is not a realistic suggestion. Fun needs to immerse himself in activities that preoccupy him and allow him to focus on tasks/items or other things that allow him to weather the storms of depression until such time as he can be reliably in a better state of mind. Having others nearby to keep him otherwise occupied to prevent himself from self destructive and excessive self examination is a viable approach (although it is extremely hard on the persons being relied upon to keep the person occupied. Being around/supportive of a depressive is not an easy feat. )

Time and the resulting perspective are the only true cures. The key is to make sure that one can survive long enough to develop that experience and perspective.

Part of the problem is people overlook sacking up as a possible solution. Instead they look to the police, suicide hotlines, and Apolyton, all of which simply tell them that they aren't the problem, and that the big bad world has been mean to them. Solving absolutely nothing in the process

You want to see people who need counselors, go to Walter Reed and talk to the people who are paralyzed. They will never be able to have sex or hold a job or feed themselves, and yet they do 1/10th of the *****ing on average than I have seen in this thread because this guy's job faxing Abe Lincoln's speeches to himself expired.

You lack sensitivity, consideration, and respect for other people.

For some reason, comparing my life to other people's lives does not help me. I already know there are other people out there who seem to have suffered more than what I have suffered. But it doesn't help me any, knowing this.

And for the record, I looked up that suicide hotline number online. So maybe I had found a number that was no longer up to date. Anyway, my counselor gave me two other numbers that I can call if I need to.
