I know at Lehman Brothers, ESPECIALLY the UK branch, were noticeably slightly intoxicated in the afternoons in general.
They go out to pubs for lunch and have a ton of beers."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

People in the US used to drink on the job a lot more than they do now. It seems to have been very common not too long ago.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I think this gives GS an unfair advantage. I'm writing to my congressman to propose a bill that requires all investment banking firms to offer mid-day happy hours to ensure an equal footing.Originally posted by KrazyHorse View PostTo the competition being slightly intoxicated

Have you watched Mad Men before? I'm sure part of it is Hollywood license but I don't doubt that most people used to have a bottle or two in their office to share with clients or coworkers.Originally posted by DanS View PostPeople in the US used to drink on the job a lot more than they do now. Even in the 80s, my dad's mentioned at a lot of the oil companies it wasn't unusual to have some whisky in the room."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

My uncles used to have beer on the oil rig, proving once again that God favors drunkards. It's amazing to me, because the way work culture is now, it's bone dry (at least in appearance). Well, we sometimes have special events at the end of the day with alcohol, but that hardly counts.
My guess is that things have changed because of the harsher drunk driving laws and stricter workplace liability.Last edited by DanS; July 3, 2010, 07:54.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter.
