Gay people get along fine with women. We just know better than to get involved with them.

    • Also, FORTRAN

It's great to have on your resume. I still get calls about it. All the people who know it keep dying.

Women just like gay guys because they think they can turn them straight... women are stupid.

        • Women are illogical choices in partners because they tend not to make as much money. These are the facts.

          • Despite the high energy community going mostly to C++ (and my current project C++/Python) some new students are still put to work using Fortran. Fortran is mostly legacy code for us (but there is a lot of it).

In other areas of physics, I think Fortran is considered OK. But it is mainly High Energy physics that produces the great frameworks like ROOT (C++) and PAW (Fortran).

Some of you. Others... the majority of my college roommates were gay, and they ranged from kind of crappy to mind-bogglingly horrible with women.

              • I find earplugs and in-ear headphones creepy because they involve sticking things in orifices so you can pretty much just see where I'm going with this. (I paid $80 for in ear apple headphones and they don't even work for the record Just get the $29 standard earbuds)

WTF did you have lots of gay college roommates? At CMU? In Compsci?

                  The odds are astronomical.

Looks like middle class is the primary source of recruits. It's still possible that rich are disproportionately contributing though. Don't know the population numbers for the upper income levels.

Almost no CS people learn Fortran anymore. Everyone that learns Fortran are engineers or physicists. I had to help my brother with tons of Fortran doing CFD work.

It's a sad state of affairs. The Fortran code floating around out there is awful.

Majority? How does that even happen? Fun times at the dorm, eh, Kuci?

                              • I knew a guy who had a gay room-mate at my college. The guy was from the city, black guy, even was a Muslim. A few months later, he was licking his lips and swishing his hips... full-blown homosexual.

Funny story, actually. They would get drunk and have sex. He got freaked out by it at first but would continue to drink with him and have sex. Again and again. The fact that they shared a dorm must have inticed it. Eventually, he went to a therapist and he realized he was gay.
