      • neither kaka nor the guy who fouled rivaldo years ago got sent off because of the pathetic and obvious filming acts of the guys fouled. even both of the referees, no matter how blind they were, saw through them. they were sent off because offending contact which's only intent is to harm other players is auto-rewarded with a red card according to the rules.

but HURF DURF HOCKEY IS A TOUGHER SPORT BECAUSE PHYSICAL CONTACT IS ALLOWED IN IT! no you retards, hockey is a sport where harming others with physical contact is allowed ("legal tackles" can hurt other players). football is a sport where it is not allowed ("legal tackles" mean "tackles" which only touch the ball).

we went through this around page 2, yet you guys keep trolling with this ****. what's more astonishing that some europeans are taking your trolls seriously and trying to downtalk this **** with all the excuses.

          • no sane player tries to dive in hockey because it's a 5-player game where players can skate fast. 5 seconds of missed play from one player (pretending an injury) can result in a goal in the other end of the ice. it takes 50 seconds to advance from your own goal to the other side's goal in football, and there are 11 players. plenty of time to dive, stay down and start crying while the ball is still in play. diving will end when the referees grow some balls again and start giving yellow cards for diving. if this would be enforced as often as it should be, c. ronaldo would be sent off for 2 yellow cards in every WC match he has ever played.

when you enforce the rules, players start respecting them. simple enough?

              • I'm not desperate. The soccer fans trying to defend their sport and this tournament in particular sure are.

Perhaps you should not attempt to speak with authority when you don't know what you're talking about.

Soccer is not basketball. Tackles are allowed if they are not careless or reckless. What that constitutes is left up to common practice and ultimately the referee. If you touch the ball first that CAN be an indication of non-recklessness, but it is not sufficient nor is it required.

Hockey allows more tackles, they are a bigger part of the game and in return hockey players wear protection. Deliberately injuring is obviously not allowed. Hockey checks are usually to the body, soccer ones (especially fouls) are often to the legs (compare "tripping"). There are many differences, but there are similarities too.

Edit: Both sports it is safe to say were "tougher" in the past.

                            • It's funny that the English have no problem mocking the Italians for being soft, but seem completely puzzled as to why North Americans think they're weak. You may be tough for soccer, but that still makes you less physical than the average WNBA player...
