  • Bay Area Polytubbies (or others with an interest in sci-fi), please assist!

Locus Magazine (www.locusmag.com), a literary magazine that focuses on science fiction and fantasy, just published its June issue, which contains a review of Galnemer's book.

Unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere around here in Columbus, and they don't put their reviews on their website. It is published in the Bay Area, so if any of you happen to have access to it, from a bookstore, or library, or a subscription, I'd be incredibly grateful and beholden to you if you could send me a PM containing the contents of the review.

Any good science fiction book store will carry Locus. I used to subscribe to it, but now, I will buy a copy if I see it at a SF convention.

There is a good SF Book Store in Columbus.

Thanks for the tip! That's about a mile from my house, actually. Sadly, she doesn't carry the magazine, nor did the place she referred me on to.

Bummer... I would have expected her to carry it. The local SF convention for Columbus also just passed. It was on Memorial Day Weekend at that Hyatt in Columbus. Hmmmm...

Local Bay Area Polytubbies won't really have much more luck finding it than anybody else, since Lucus is distributed nationally. What you really meed is to find somebody who is a hard core SF Fan.

I'll ask around to my friends here and see if anybody has a copy... Many of them are hard core SF fans. Heck, I met my wife at an SF convention.

I'll see what I can come up with.

You also might want to contact Locus directly. I'm sure they would be more than willing to sell you a single issue.

Maybe I should try to meet women at science fiction conventions... the only problem is, I have very little to no interest in science fiction.

Oh, I'm aware. We were there, pimping her books.

I'll try to give them a call Monday, unless I hear from someone else. I've no doubt that her editor will eventually get a copy, I was just hoping to surprise her with it while she's gone to a convention in Cincinnati.

The best way to meet people is by going to places where people with a common interest get together. I went to a lot of SF Conventions back then, so it's really no surprise I ended up marrying somebody I had met at one

                  I should have known

I'm sure they will be able to help you if you explain why you want it. They could probably even email you a digital image of it. They are really nice people.

Detroit Fire Department arson investigator Anya Kalinczyk suspects her latest serial arsonist is up to something magical with his fires. She's got lots of experience with the supernatural; she's a Lantern, a sort of medium who attracts ghosts like moths to a light, and then swallows them to destroy them. She occasionally helps out a group of ghost hunters, and has a salamander familiar named Sparky, a fire spirit who likes messing with electricity. So when she finds strange marks at the fire scenes, she's able to put the pieces together: someone is trying to summon an ancient being, one that will destroy most of the city. This very promising first novel is a solid fantasy mystery with a strong protagonist and an effective contemporary setting in a decaying Detroit.

The absolutely lovely woman who answers Locus' phone faxed me the review. Thanks, Ming!

Is that the entire review? I read a better one when trying to find the one you were talking about online.
