With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

    Fantastic man, actor, director.

He's a bit too sentimental for me.

okay, believe it or not, this is true

I lived by the mountain in the movie Dirty Harry and we watched them filming it - if you are ever in the bay area, check out the ~80-120 ft concrete cross on Mt Davidson. We never climbed it but the community did maintain a killer rope swing (oh man, getting drunk/high and swinging on that thing was so cool) just north of the cross. They filmed the Laughing Policeman on our street (got to meet Walter Matthau, real nice guy rip) right next to the mountain. Anyway, never met Clint but this aint about him really.

We were shot at by the Zodiac Killer

aint no BS, or it was a copycat... It was ~ 1973, no '72? I think '72 but I'd have to really think about it and maybe even contact some old friends. Summer of '72 I think, now I did some reading on this ahole and I cant really pin down what happened wrt timing, but some m***f*** was taking pot shots at us one night. We were at McAteer HS screwing around on the field at night (stoned and jumping on these new batting cages) and as we walked across the football field toward the stands and hill we heard what sounded like insects hitting a windshield but these were hitting the ground nearby. We all heard it (wtf was that?), and we heard it again and we started runnin'.

Now, you gotta understand the situation - we were out in the open (in a bowl like area maybe 300x150 yds and faced with climbing a very long staircase up a hill to the gym and we all thought the same thing, someone was shooting at us. We heard (I heard) 2 shots hit the ground before we reached the staircase and at least 1 more hitting the concrete as we were sprinting up the stairs. Obviously no one got hit and the bastard was using a silencer (never heard the actual shots) but being drunk/high juveniles we either convinced ourselves it was a hallucination or some other reason to dismiss it, but adults playing at the gym that night also reported someone taking potshots at them as they left the gym (the door they left thru was at the top of our staircase). We got lucky that night, some ahole got 3-4 shots off at us at least and he got away with it...

              Oh ya, happy bd Clint

btw, watching Dirty Harry (AMC) and just saw one of my buddies from elementary school. He was a kid on the school bus hijacked by scorpio, on the right side of the isle (Jack Hanson, son of the ABC weather guy at the time)

interesting dichotomy (is any uninteresting?), in Dirty Harry, Clint is the wild man playing without rules, in the sequel he's the one playing by the rules.

and the same black dude plays the bank robber in 1, the pimp in 2, and Harry's unlucky partner (is there any other kind) in 3 (or 4?)...

sorry, Zodiac wasn't a sniper but Scorpio from the movie was...and the movie may have come out before this happened. I think it did...

Like Clint is an awesome actor. He plays the same role every movie and delivers every line EXACTLY the same. Compared to Clint the Hmong kid was awesome.

Still, I've seen almost every movie of his and love his directing.

I thought it was one of his best. In fact, if you look at his body of work it basically improves over time, as you would expect. I think I read him say in an interview once that from "The Unforgiven" onwards he's primarily concerned with consequences, and to me that rings true.

GT certainly had its fair share of illustrating consequences, and to me had the feel of being directed by the sure hands of a master - light on with the gimmicks, just telling an interesting story in a way that made you care about the characters.

What didn't you like about GT Kontiki?
